Time is a tricky thing—especially when it comes to crime.

When smooth-talking conman Simon Ralston tries to swindle the wrong widow, private detectives Johnny Chandler and Vicky Langford step in to retrieve what’s been stolen. But just as they close in on Ralston, he offers them something much more valuable than a stolen heirloom—a name: Theodore Calloway.

Hours later, Calloway is found dead in his Yorkville townhouse, and detectives Mick McCathie and Mack MacNeely are on the case. The crime scene is pristine, but something doesn’t add up. A business card from Ralston’s shop is left in plain sight. Too plain. Too convenient.

As Johnny and Vicky follow Ralston’s trail of past marks, Mick and Mack dig deeper into Calloway’s life, uncovering a tangled web of high-society deception, counterfeit jewelry, and a deadly game of revenge.
